Many veterans feel guilty because they lived while others died. Some feel ashamed because they didn’t bring all their men home and wonder what they could have done differently to save them. When they get home they wonder if there’s something wrong with them.
He nods once as Draco speaks. He wasn’t fond of crowded places himself, so he understood on a small level how he felt. “Best ta wait for yer dad in his office then, yeah? Ain’t crowded down that area, far as I know anyway.” There wasn’t much of a reason for him to wander down that side of the Ministry. Unless he was asked to speak to one of the governors.
Turning his head to look at him, he saw how he had barely lifted his head. He almost reminded him of one of his nephews. Almost.
“C’mon. No use sittin’ ‘ere if ya ain’t big on crowds or loud places.”
“ Usually I just wait for him to come back. “
He sits up a little bit more now that he’s not alone, shifting how he’s settled entirely so his legs are crossed rather than tucked up protectively. He has to think actually on if his father had a legitimate job here, pinching his brows together and pursing his lips.
“ I don’t know if he has an office… “
“He ain’t goin’ ta find ya HERE. ‘specially with the crowd.” he hated how crowded the Ministry got. He wasn’t claustraphobic, he just hated socializing with the MAJORITY of people in the building. After a second, Arthur stood, adjusting his jacket before he turned to look down at the kid.
“If he doesn’t, best just ta go back ta the place where ya LAST saw him.” He held his hand out to help the boy up. Given he had nothing to be doing work wise, he figured it best to help the young Malfoy, even if he wasn’t FOND of his father.
He stops when he sees the position Draco has taken up by the fountain. The annoyance he felt towards the boy was slowly replaced with sympathy. He was hardly surprised when no one stopped to ask him was he ok. No one in the Ministry cared if a kid was looking miserable.
Walking over, Arthur said nothing as he sat down next to the boy. Resting his arms on his knees, he kept his gaze forward and his back pressed to the edge of the fountain.
“Ya alright kid?”
He jumps at the voice, and it’s humiliating. It causes his cheeks to burn red and his heart to race, it’s enough to keep him curled up and hidden like this until he’s certain that he’s no longer flushed from embarrassment. But that doesn’t mean that he remains quiet.
An adult was speaking to him, he had to at least try to be polite. And he was required to respond.
“ It’s loud. There are more people here than before. “

Oh fuck. 5 seconds and the kid disappeared into the crowd. Running a hand through his hair, Arthur let out a small groan, before he went in the direction the boy disappeared. Thank Merlin he had the height advantage and would be able to spot him easily. The blond hair was a dead give away.
Peering around, it took him a good 5 minutes before he caught a brief glimpse of platinum blond hair. Grumbling to himself, the auror stalked over and began following Draco from a short distance. If the kid didn’t want to talk to him, he could just follow him until he spotted the elder Malfoy.
He’s rather patient once he thinks that he’s alone again, standing a little closer to the large fountain before he just settles on the floor near it’s base. The crowd didn’t seem to surge over here that often, they all just seemed to march vacantly towards the elevators.
It makes sense he supposes, seeing as the rest of the ministry lie behind them, and while childish curiosity insists he climb in and just wind up wherever it goes, it’s an honest fear of disappointing his father that has him curl his legs in and hug his knees to his chest, finally just resting his chin on top.
Eventually though Draco tucks up a little further, pulling his chin towards his chest and hiding his face. It was far easier to be boisterous and proud when he knew what was going on, but everything around him seemed to be moving faster, talking louder, and somehow it even seemed to begin crowding in on him.
He stops when he sees the position Draco has taken up by the fountain. The annoyance he felt towards the boy was slowly replaced with sympathy. He was hardly surprised when no one stopped to ask him was he ok. No one in the Ministry cared if a kid was looking miserable.

If he could leave him alone, he would in a heart beat. But if, Merlin forbid, something happens to the kid after he leaves, the guilt would kill him. “I can’t leave ya alone in the bloody Ministry. Kids ain’t allowed ta be left alone.” Christ he was only 9. So far, he could see why his father would leave him. The kid was already starting to get on his nerves.
“Yer da got an office ya can wait in?” Might as well bring him back to wherever his father worked. He never had much interaction with Lucius Malfoy. Aside from a few brief exchanges over a case and the fact he was a half-blood.
If it had to be narrowed down to one thing that he was surprisingly good at, it would be his ability to tell what people thought of him, and despite telling himswlf that he really didn’t care if this random man had such a distaste for him, it does bother him. It does make his shoulders droop faintly.
And it does cement the idea in his head that it would be better for him to just be lost in the ministry rather than stand here and talk to someone that hated him.
So rather than answering, the young Malfoy turns on his heel and just disappears into the crowd.

The hair, the attitude, christ it’s Malfoy’s kid. Of course it is. Leave it to Malfoy to forget his own son in the fucking Ministry of Magic. Out of every damn kid in England, he has to approach the Malfoy boy. “So, yer da left ya here and fucked off.” He could almost hear his aunt scolding him for using bad language in front of a kid.
Rubbing the back of his neck, Arthur glanced around the area for any sign of the other Malfoy. “Were ya headin’ somewhere specific?”
If he got the kid to where he was originally going, he’d be rid of him quicker..
“ You can just leave me alone you know. “
He doesn’t need an adult that obviously can’t stand him hovering about because he feels like he needs to protect the ‘child’. Draco lived in a large house full of dangerous objects and he’d only ever hurt himself once, he could function perfectly fine in an extremely large building filled with people who hadn’t even noticed he was there.
Eventually his father would come back out of the Ministry and they’d be off.
After some gentle scolding, of course.
“ I’m perfectly fine. I’m already 9. “

During his years working for the Ministry, he had seen a lot of things. But a kid wandering the place was a first, for him anyway. Glancing around for any sign of anyone with the boy, he almost sighed when he saw no one approach him. A kid wandering the Ministry unsupervised wouldn’t end well, especially if he found his way into one of the departments.
With a small sigh, Arthur walked over to the platinum blond male, a look of unease crossing his features. He was never good with kids.
“Ya lost kid?”
When he’s approached he feels an odd mixture of relief that he’d been noticed and annoyance that someone thought he needed to be. It results in the boy scoffing and taking a small step back, looking first from the man near him off towards the elevators that lead deeper into the ministry.
Naturally his father had just walked off, he imagines it will be a long while until he notices that Draco isn’t tagging along at his ankles.
“ Lost? Of course not. My fathers just wandered off is all. He never was very good at paying attention to where I am. “

this is a highly selective and private blog. I only interact with mutuals, any asks/likes on a starter call, from non-mutuals, will be ignored.
FORMATTING
I use double small font and 50x50 icons, I can ramble in threads so please don't feel the need to match lenght! If you need me to use bigger font, let me know! I know not everyone can see the tinyass font, so I will adjust if you need me to!
OC's
I love oc's. I wanna hug and kiss 'em all. But I can be super fucking selective with what oc's I follow. I've had a lot of bad/uncomfortable experiences with them in the past, I'd rather not have any more.
SHIPPING
I'm a ship hoe, you wanna ship? HMU, I most likely already ship it tbh. I portray Arthur as bisexual, so I will gladly ship with males. I dont autoship. Shipping must be discussed OOC.
MUN
Mun goes by Alex. Idgaf what pronouns you use, go nuts with them. I'm 19 and currently in college so I can't always be here, and I got a few other muses to look after.

Arthur is more brawn than brains. During the war in France, Arthur was a Sapper with his brother Thomas, digging very treacherous tunnels in order to place enormous amount of explosives under the enemy positions: a tactic used several times in the war to devastating effect at both the Battle of Verdun and the Battle at the Somme. It is suggested he may have served at Gallipoli through his distaste for Turks and the smell of stagnant water.
He’s the eldest of the Shelby siblings and is mistaken as head of the family quite often. He has a bad habit of whoring, drinking and using drugs. After an incident involving his father, Arthur tries to hang himself, but the plan fails when the rope snaps off the hook.
He becomes more unstable as time goes on, the trauma from the war hanging over his head. His instability drives him to eventually killing a boy in the boxing ring by beating him to death.
